Close to $150,000 is needed to help Jewish families in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights to enter the Pesach holiday with enough food and clothing.
Mrs. Devorah Scheiner, a resident who has dedicated 25 years to families and individuals in need, told COLlive.com the number of poverty-striken households has not declined.
“The need is greater than ever,” she said.
Before Pesach each year, Scheiner and other volunteers fundraise, shop around for discounted prices and then distribute it all to Jewish families.
The amount she is planning to give out for this Pesach has risen over previous years.
Her latest tally:
400 to 600 cases of poultry and meat.
500 new pairs of shoes for children.
$350 stipend to each family made out to a discount grocery.
Dairy products (each family receives 2 bricks of cheese, and containers of cottage cheese, yogurt and more).
Cases of various fruits and vegetables.
All that is estimated at $150,000 and Mrs. Scheiner is scrambling these days to raise that amount although she is recovering from a recent illness.
As she told us in the past, “people have no idea how bad the times are. We need to help put food on the table for many Crown Heights families.”
To help, please write checks out to “Mrs. Scheiner’s Yom-Tov Fund.”

DEVORAH’S DISTRIBUTION HAS BEEN TREMENDOUSLY HELPFUL TO ME OVER AND OVER, TIME AND TIME AGAIN! I DON’T KNOW WHAT I WOULD DO WITHOUT HER HELP!
I tried in the past and was a bit dicouraged when at least 20 personal questions were thrown my way .
So I left empty handed and no sense of dignity or pride.
Should I try again this time ?!?
go bubby go from the brafmans
Indeed the giver of the tzedakah doesn’t know the recipient.
The distributers do know the recipients, but how could they be expected to magically distribute 400 – 600 cases of chicken and all the rest of the stuff in secret?
May Hashen bless Am Yisroel that we have no more poor people and not need this service anymore.

#4 Call Mrs. Scheiner and explain your situation, she is very good hearted.
What’s the phone number to get help ?
Who knows was ch yud be like?
yes indeed she and her husband are amazing people.
it would be an even greater mitzva if it could be done in a more discrete fashion such as sendingthe food to the recipients house.
It is very embarrasing to stand in the street for everyone to see. That’s why i don’t come anymore. Don’t get me wrong i am very grateful for the chesed, but in my opinion it should be done with more dignity towards the recipients. That’s why the highest for of tzedaka is when the sender and receiver don’t know each other. A freilachen yom tov
Is there some way to donate online?
