Miriam Schonfeld, a great-grandmother and an artist, passed away on Tuesday, 10 Elul 5782, at the age of 91.
Mrs. Schonfeld was a devoted wife who supported her husband, Dr. Alexander Schonfeld, through university where he earned his doctorate in psychology and throughout his career serving the mental health needs of the Jewish community as a distinguished therapist. Prior to this she and her husband ran a convenience store in Crown Heights.
Mrs. Schonfeld was a well regarded artist who was inspired by her love for Yiddishkeit, Hashem’s creations and the land of Israel. Mrs. Schonfeld and her husband were fortunate enough to make Aliyah to Eretz Yisroel in 1988, a lifelong dream of theirs.
Mrs. Schonfeld is survived by her five children—Dena Wegh (Westchester, NY), Michoel Schonfeld (Har Nof, Israel), Esther Silvestri (Fairlawn, NJ), Naomi Schonfeld (Ramot, Israel), and Chavi Cohen (Crown Heights, NY)—and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The levaya took place on Wednesday, 10 Elul 5782, in Beit Chilkiya, Israel, where the family will be sitting Shiva. Chavi Cohen will also be sitting Shiva in Crown Heights on Friday (9/9) through Monday (9/12) at 1532 President St.
