Mrs. Malka Chana Schachar, a mother of 7 and resident of Tzfas Israel, passed away Tuesday, 24 Teves, 5776.
She was 51 and passed away suddenly from a terminal illness.
Chani (nee Helman) was known as a hospitable and kind person, and her home in Tzfas, Israel, was open to all.
“Her name Chana means grace, favor and comfort,” her nephew Eli Federman said. “She exemplified those qualities.”
Following the funeral, Eli Federman related, “During the funeral my uncle observed an elderly woman uncontrollable crying. My uncle did not recognize the woman. He approached her and asked how she knew Chani.
“Her matter-of-fact response: ‘I was largely ignored in the community. I’ve been sick for many years. Chani was like my mother. She always asked how I was doing and did everything to make me feel better and brighten my day.'”
She is survived by her husband Chanoch and children Yossi, Sarah, Dov Ber, Rivka, Rochel, Devora and Hendi.
She is also survived by her siblings.
The funeral took place yesterday, and the family is sitting Shiva in Tzfas.

Once I asked her: How can you host so many people all the time at any time and find room for them in your modest home? Her answer was the most beautiful :”When there is room in your heart, there is room in your home ” such humble and great woman!
