R’ Bentzion Rader of London, England, a devoted Chossid and prominent member of the London Chabad community, passed away on Shabbos, 10 Iyar, 5777.
He was 92.
Bentzion Rader was born in London in 1924. He served in the British Royal Navy during the Second World War, after which he married his wife Hinda.
R’ Bentzion was a successful accountant, and as central figures in the Jewish community in Ilford, he and his wife were renowned for their open home and outstanding generosity.
In the 1960’s Bentzion met Rabbi Faivish Vogel, who introduced him to Lubavitch and Chabad Chassidus. Beginning with his first yechidus in 1966, Bentzion merited to have more than 26 hours of yechidus and received many kiruvim and personal missions from the Rebbe. He inspired countless chassidim with personal stories of the Rebbe.
A prolific writer, Bentzion contributed to many publications, and edited the “Week in Review.” Together with his wife, he wrote, edited, and compiled numerous books, including “Challenge: an Encounter With Chabad,” “Challenge: An Encounter with Chabad in Israel,” “Woman Of Valour,” “Return to Roots,” and “To Touch the Divine.”
His pride and joy was the army of shluchim and chassidim among his children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren across the world.
At one yechidus, after his wife had answered the Rebbe that she had enjoyed the farbrengen on Shabbos, the Rebbe responded, “I’ll know that you enjoyed it when you bring me your children.”
Reb Bentzion merited to bring more than 150 descendants to the Rebbe.
He is survived by his wife Hinda, and his children Tzirel (Sandy) Weinbaum – London, England, Lieba Baumgarten – Johannesburg, South Africa and Rabbi Hershel Rader – London, England.
