Wisdom, understanding, knowledge and… beauty.
A mikvah built by Chabad has won a nationwide government-sponsored competition for the title “The Most Beautiful Mikvah in Israel.”
80 mikvahs were ranked by Israel’s Ministry for Religious Affairs and the Council for a Beautiful Israel, a non-profit environmental organization that focuses on the country’s urban centers.
Head of the committee of judges was Rabbi Shmuel Rabinovitch, Rabbi of the Western Wall and the Holy Sites of Israel.
The outstanding ritual bath that was chosen was the mikvah in the village of Ma’ale Efrayim, run by Chabad Rabbi Menachem Mendel Glitzenshtein.
As reported last year, it was built thanks to a $10,000 grant from the Mayim Chayim Mikvah Building Fund of Taharas Hamishpacha International, directed by Mrs. Chaya Sarah Zarchi.
The donation was given by a woman who read on COLlive.com about a similar gift that was given to a Chabad mikvah in Sweden and decided to follow suit.
Her donation helped complete the mikvah which was inaugurated by then-Israeli Chief Rabbi Shlomo Amar and frequented by residents of Maale Efrayim and the Jordan Valley.

It is extremely important and essential for a Mikvah to have a picture of a Tzadik in order that the person coming out of the Mikvah should see and ‘picture’ the face of a tzadik. This is mentioned in many Seforim for example in ‘sidur Yaakov emdin’ ….it is also a “maase Rav” in the Gemora that R’ Yochonon (iinm) used to sit outside of the Mikvah so that those exiting would see his holy face.
for the same reason it is also a minhag for those exiting a Mikvah to be careful not to look at unholy things/animals/people/etc.
It’s in the lobby….. Not a problem
One may ask as well why are there plants… Flowers….. ?
Answer: Beauty

After coming out of the mikva, in a state of purity and kedusha it is very appropriate that the first thing a woman should see is holiness and purity, that is the picture of the Rebbe
If I remember correctly, the tana Reb Meir would stand outside the mikva so women could see him, (but he was positioned so he did not see them) as they left and want to have children , talmidei chachamim, like him,
On behalf of The Taharas Hamishpacha Organization – Mikvah.org, I extend heartfelt congratulations to the outstanding Glitzenshteins, shluchim with utmost mesirus nefesh. What an absolutely stunning edifice and may you soon outgrow these quarters and go on to build an ever larger and greater mikvah building to accommodate more “newbes” than you ever expected.. Correction: the credit DOES NOT go to me, but rather to our entire staff who work tirelessly yomam voloyla; and with regard to this project, we recognize Chassi Rivkin, Coordinator of Special Projects, who expertly headed this project with great efficiency. Beauty is only part of the deal. Convenience is very vital. See the hand held showers, containers of cotton balls, scissors, gorgeous and practical.
Crown heights has more, but sadly lacking the essential: MORE ROOMS. Lots of wonderful tzadakas but no one realizes how poor the neighborhood is
Please share why it’s appropriate to have a picture of the Rebbe (and yes, I agree it’s a beautiful photo) in the lobby of a women’s mikvah.
Kol HaKavod for Mrs Zarchi and mikvah.org for enabling this Israeli Chabad community to build such a beautiful Mikvah. Hopefully more donors will participate in their building fund so even more Mikvaos can be helped!
MORE BEAUTIFUL in real life than on the pictures.
Kol Hakavod to the shluchim who worked hard to
make it so lovely and appealing!
Wow!,first wow that it only needed$10,000 to make it (or was it to finish it?).
Second wow is notice the greenery, how it spruces up everything .
Third wow is how much israel gave kovod to the mitzva by having a competition on it.
Is it true that Chabad pushed the envelope as far as how nice mikvaos can be, making mikvaos not just functional, but also beautiful? And that this was done to enhance and popularize the going to the mikva experience?
number one, cute!
Wow! Beautiful Mikvah!
Kol Hakovod to Mrs. Chaya Sarah Zarchi.
Mrs. Zarchi has been running Mivtzah Taharas Hamishpocho for so many years with so much dedication.
No other Crown Heights based Mivtzah does even close to as much in terms of outreach and truly realizing the Rebbe’s vision for his holy Mivtzoim.
Mrs. Zarchi keep up the great work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
