Montreal’s ‘Shabbos for Sholom’

Camp Gan Yisroel Montreal dedicated this past Shabbos Shoftim to Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin. The objective was to raise the campers’ awareness of Sholom Mordechai’s plight and unite together to beseech Hashem on his behalf.

On Erev Shabbos the entire camp gathered together in the Shul for a rally, where the 12 Pesukim and Tehillim were recited and Tzedoka was distributed.

The rally opened with Head Counselor Yisroel Cohen explaining the significance of the Shabbos. Following the 12 Pesukim, a message recorded by Sholom Mordechai’s son Getzel Rubashkin was played with the text of the message then read out loud. The campers then heard a story about Sholom Mordechai related by counselor Yisrolik Raices, who lives in Postville, Iowa. Executive Director Rabbi B. Mochkin then addressed the campers.

With the conclusion of the rally the campers proceeded to the dining room where they wrote letters of support to Sholom Mordechai.

Throughout the Shabbos stories of Sholom Mordechai’s Bitachon and Ahavas Yisroel were related and Niggunim were sung in his honor. In addition, as part of Mishnayos Baal Peh, special Tanya sheets were distributed to be learned in Sholom Mordechai’s merit.

It is our fervent hope that through the special Tefillos and Torah of this Shabbos, Sholom Mordechai will be Zoche to his personal Geulah amongst Klal Yisroel with the Geulah Shelaima now!
