Rabbi Shmuel Butman, Executive Director of the Central Lubavitch Youth Organization (“Tzach) in New York, was the guest speaker of the Chabad community in Montreal, Canada, this past week.
Rabbi Butman was invited to headline farbrengens in the city in honor of Chof Daled Teves, the yartzeit of the Alter Rebbe, Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi, founder of Chabad-Lubavitch and author of the Tanya and Shulchan Aruch.
The visit was organized in collaboration with Tzach in Montreal, Cong. Lubavitch, Women of Lubavitch, Beth Menachem Zev – Ezras Achim and Cong. Shomrim Laboker.
The farbrengen also marked the 22 Teves yartzeit of Rabbi Volf Greenglass, the legendary Mashpia and Mekubal who educated thousands and helped establish Lubavitch in Montreal.
Rabbi Dovid Cohen, son-in-law of Greenglass, opened the farbrengen by welcoming the crowd. Greetings and Divrei Torah were heard from Rabbi Berel Bell, Rabbi David Raphael Banon and Rabbi Leibel Kaplan.
In addition to hearing inspiring remarks by Rabbi Butman, participants watched a video of the Rebbe and sang nigunim accompanied by Avremel Zirkind on his keyboard.
The next morning, Rabbi Butman visited and spoke to the students at Chabad’s educational institutions, including the elementary school of Yeshivas Tomchei Tmimim Lubavitch, Mesivta Ateres Menachem, Beth Rivka Academy for girls and the Chaya Mushka Seminary.
