Monsoon rains in Nepal, a country constantly battling malnutrition and food insecurity, have flooded the home of the Kathmandu-based Shluchim Rabbi Chezky and Chanie Lifshitz.
It caught them in middle of extensive preparations for Rosh Hashana, when they host hundreds of Israeli backpackers and Jewish expats.
Water has filled their apartment on the second floor of a commercial building located in the Thamel, a known crowded tourist area.
Israeli guests have volunteered to move the furniture and drain out the large amount of water.
During monsoon season In Nepal, which lasts from June to September, flash floods and landslides triggered by the storms cause hundreds of deaths and leave thousands homeless each year.
Over 600 people are expected to attend Rosh Hashana prayers and meals hosted by Chabad of Nepal in a hall near the Chabad House.
An Israeli Lubavitch couple, Rabbi Nochum and Elisheva Yurkowitz, will be organizing services for Israelis in the popular tourist city of Pokhara. Bochur Akiva Steinmitz will be joining them.
