Oughta to be either poor or rich to survive in this town.

Probably a good thing, as we see so many people abusing this. Most people who have food stamps don’t really need it.

Not a fair statement

There are a handful of people who abuse food stamps. However, they are the minority you hear about. People who really rely on food stamps aren’t going around letting everyone know.
There are people who hit hard times, and this is essential for some people to put food on their table.

Do people who don’t want any secular education and high pay that goes with it but, at the same time, have 10+ children whom they send to private schools AND live in the world’s most expensive city – do they abuse this program or not? If not, then whom do you mean?

You mean the people who are paying taxes for others schooling in addition to paying for schooling for their own ten kids?

How’s that education doing for you?

Did your secular education teach you the difference between who and whom?
And, just curious, do you think those ten children deserve to starve?
Also, do the halachos of tzedaka state: “Only help those who did everything right – according to your judgment?”
As for your question – it sounds like he/she was referring to those who make good money but hide it and lie about their income to get benefits. Now that is abuse of the system – at the expense of the ten starving children.

what about those who do??!!

The system in place now is that Democratic cities and states tax us to death and then rely on federal programs to supplement what’s left. Instead of blaming the president for wanting to take some of the unprecedented millions of Americans off the dole,we should work on voting out Dems and their always more taxes policies.

So now

The keyword here is work requirements. There are those who dont work, dont look for work, or work off the books. Then they apply for benefits. If they would be required to work then the amount they need would either ho down or be eliminated totally

WHAT ?????

December 4, 2019 11:09 am

…..A U.S. Department of Agriculture spokeswoman said it doesn’t apply to recipients who are over 50, disabled or pregnant, or anyone with a child under 18……

So, we are talking about middle aged, able bodied men and women who do not have any dependents who rely on them. Those over 18 are adults who apply apart fro their parents.

Before everyone goes crazy, get the facts.

Question
December 2, 2019 12:08 pm

What are the new requirements?

Vote the dems out

And if many of you don’t know the Democratic Party are trying to mandate The HPV vaccine for our kids to enter school next yr!

Way of life
December 2, 2019 2:26 pm

Unfortunately, welfare has become a way of life for many in our community. Some scam the system by not having a civil marriage so that they can get more benefits.

December 2, 2019 2:27 pm

In order to collect benefits, one should have to prove that they are actually searching for a job.

Sorry to be break it to you.....
December 2, 2019 6:14 pm

If your good enough to hold some responsibility……married children etc. Then it’s good enough to figure out your own income. & not live off the dole. The benefits are there that if your not making enough income TRULY. that’s when food stamps section 8 & all the other good stuff kick in. Not. Let’s see my income is low. How low? Emmmmmm & cant feed my family off this income…..& then the chutzpah is we as a community Crown Heights when the community council cant help. We have to run to another community. Williamsburg to get benefits as it may… Read more »

the Rebbe
December 2, 2019 10:47 pm

remember how he gave the inspiration to democrats and republicans such as Senator Dole, to help create the food stamp program. Farmers have excess food? People are hungry? work it out so that nobody is deprived. But look at today how much food is thrown out by restaurants instead of being used to help the poor. We don’t need to ‘tax the rich’ or control people…just find ways so that people can get help with what is already right there.

The Rebbe supported foodstamps

it’s sad that there seem to be yidden happy that other yidden will lose c’v food aid cause reasons

Did the Rebbe say to lie about your income?

One can support a program without recommending that Yidden lie to take advantage of it. If I am not mistaken, we are required to follow the laws of the land as long as those laws do not contradict obeying the Torah. I do not think the Rebbe ever “supported” failing to report (or omitting reporting) income — under-the-table or not — when applying for government programs. Just because someone makes their parnassah under the table is not an excuse to masquerade as someone who makes NO parnassah. That is called lying and cheating; it is 100% a chillul Hashem as… Read more »

You have zero knowledge about who receives the aid and what they do to receive it.

Bottom line is you are happy when some yidden will have less food to feed their families with cause reasons

Consider

From NPR
December 4, 2019 12:51 pm

The Trump administration is tightening work requirements for some food stamp recipients, a change that is expected to eliminate Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, benefits for 688,000 adults.

The new rule makes it more difficult for states to waive a requirement that able-bodied adults without children work at least 20 hours a week or else lose their benefits.

From WSJ--adults who can work, have no dependents
December 4, 2019 4:07 pm

For able-bodied adults without dependents, U.S. law limits SNAP benefits to three months, unless recipients are working or in training for 20 hours a week. States can waive those limits in areas where unemployment runs 20% above the national rate, which was 3.6% in October.

The new rule requires the unemployment rate to be 6% or higher for states to issue such waivers. The rule also curbs the amount of discretionary exemptions from federal work requirements that states can issue.
