Security personnel and metal detectors will be deployed around the Armory in Brooklyn ahead of a gala for Chabad-Lubavitch rabbis and supporters.
The banquet of the International Kinus Hashluchim convention will be held on Sunday, November 15, 2009. 4,000 people are expected to attend.
9 security screening gates will be set up in a tent on Bedford Avenue, allowing entrance to the banquet only with photo ID.
Merkos L’Inyonei Chinuch, the organizers, are being briefed and assisted by U.S. government security agencies.
“Baruch Hashem, there is no concrete threat on the Kinus,” a Merkos official told COLlive on condition of anonymity because plans are not final.
6 Jews, including the Chabad representatives, were murdered in the Chabad House in Mumbai following the 2008 Kinus.
“After Mumbai the dynamics have changed,” the source said. “We have been in touch with top officials since then, and they are helping us on many different levels.”
Hundreds of policemen will be on hand on Thursday, November 12, to secure the new Torah celebration at 770 Eastern Parkway.
The Torah is in memory of Rabbi Gabi and Rivki Holtzberg, H”YD, the Shluchim to Mumbai.
