It was accompanied by police escorts, the parade continued uptown, stopping at the lighting of the world’s largest Menorah at 5th Avenue and 59th Street.
“”The Rebbe wanted us to bring the light of Chanukah and the spirit of Chanukah to as many places as possible,” said Rabbi Shmuel Butman, Director of Lubavitch Youth Organization and Chairman of Mitzvah Tanks.
“A Menorah Parade not only has the element of Pirsumai Nisso, publicizing the Miracle of Chanukah on a grand scale it also invokes Geon Yaakov and Geon Yisroel — Jewish pride and Jewish commitment on a very practical level.”
