On Sunday hundreds gathered for the annual Chanukah Menorah lighting at the Praca dos Arcos square in S. Paulo, Brazil, organized by Beit Chabad Central, under Rabbi Shabsi Alpern.
The mayor of S. Paulo, the largest city in South America, Mr. Gilberto Kassab, lit the 21 foot Menorah, accompanied by Rabbi Dani Eskinazi.
Rabbi Hersh Leib Begun, head of the Lubavitch Schools presented the mayor with a plaque.
Rabbi Shamai Ende and Councilman Mr. Floriano Pesaro spoke about Chanukah.
Music was played by singer Beto Barzilay and the band of the Brazilian Army.
The MC was Dr. Ernesto Kogan, a respected doctor from Anash.
The event was organized by Mrs. Judith Kacowicz of the Tsivot Hashem and Rabbi Yossi Alpern.
