Women in Unity of Melbourne, Australia, held another successful event pre-purim called “Purim Joy”.
Women In Unity was established in response to the Mumbai tragedy. The commitment to the unity of the Jewish people that originally galvanized its founders, Rebbetzins Riva Cohen, Sara Gutnick, and Miriam Telsner, set the tone for this unique evening.
Approximately three hundred women across the Melbourne Jewish communities gathered in the St Kilda Shule Hall to be inspired through song, dance, music and comedy by a cast of multi-talented women and girls.
Along with the entertainment, the audience was regaled with Purim insights by the dignified and talented chairlady, Robin Aron. It was promoted as an evening of unity, joy and charity all in the spirit of Purim.
It was a special treat for both the audience and the performers as an opportunity was provided for the women and girls to display their multi-talents in honor of Purim while entertaining and being entertained all in the cause of simcha and tzedakah.
A substantial amount of money was raised for three charity funds, Melbourne Hachnasas Kallah, the Melbourne Jewish Charity and Yad Eliezer in Eretz Yisrael which was distributed as Matanot L’Evyonim on Purim.
Special thanks to Naomi Rafael who brainstormed the idea of a women’s concert and who worked tirelessly to see it come to fruition.
