The Miracle Drive Gala banquet took place recently in Johannesburg, South Africa. The annual gala dinner highlights the work of Chabad house in South Africa, thanks sponsors for their invaluable support and commitment, and highlights the many new initiatives of a very active and driven Chabad Johannesburg team.
An exciting performance was put up by international Jewish music stars 8thDay who composed and premiered a song created especially for the event entitled “Change Our World For Good!”
With an electrifying laser show and magnificent décor, guests were treated to a thought-provoking and inspiring keynote address by Zev Krengel, leader of the South African Jewish Board of Deputies, as well as incredible announcements of support from large corporations both local and international.
An array of glittering prizes were won, all sponsored entirely by the various companies in attendance, culminating with the draw for a Nissan Vehicle.
Chabad’s vast array of programs were highlighted throughout the event, including children, youth, adults and seniors, with a very positive non-sectarian program which has truly taken off to wide acclaim – aptly named ARK – Acts of Random Kindness, based on the Rebbe’s campaigns for acts of goodness and kindness.
The support from large corporates in South Africa for the ARK program, the brain-child of Rabbi Dovid Masinter, has been exceptional, as highlighted at the dinner. Standard Bank of South Africa, Africa’s largest bank and Nissan Motor corporation SA have been joined by other major corporations including Yamaha and Momentum one of South Africa’s largest insurance companies all whom have thrown their weight behind this simple yet far-reaching program which enables everyone to fulfill the Rebbe’s instruction to a Cnn reporter ” Moshiach is ready to come all that’s needed from our side is to increase in acts of goodness and kindness ”
The highlight of the evening was an anonymous donor committing to matching donations of up to 18 million rand for a goodness and Kindness museum to be built in the Sandton CBD.
Miracle Drive drives the programs and projects of Chabad House Johannesburg, directed by Rabbis Dovid Masinter and Michael Katz, with Rabbi Ari Kievman (Seniors and JLI), Rabbi Pini Pink (Youth), Rabbi Dovid Haller (Hospitality and Mivtzoim) Funds are also raised through Miracle Drive for Chabad Cape Town, Kwazulu-Natal and the Torah Academy bursary fund – invest in futures.
