Rabbi Yitzchok Schochet may not become Britain’s next Chief Rabbi, but he was given another honor recently.
Brian Schama, the Mayor of Barnet, the largest borough in London, has announced the appointment of the Chabad rabbi as his new personal chaplain to guide him in his new position.
Schochet, Rabbi of the Mill Hill Synagogue, will be guiding the Golders Green-born Jewish Mayor in all matters spiritual and ethical.
“Serving as chaplain to Mayor Schama is a personal privilege,” Rabbi Schochet told COLlive.com. In March 2012 he announced he was not a candidate to succeed Chief Rabbi Jonathan Sacks.
“We’ve devised a prayer to be recited at the opening of each council session and we look forward to working together for the greater good of London’s most vibrant Jewish borough,” Schochet said.
Rabbi Schochet just concluded a week of lecturing at the Ivy League Torah Study Experience in Naponach, NY, and will be delivering two keynote talks at the National Jewish Retreat in Florida next week.
Keep up the great work Handsome Rabbi!
