On Monday, the Matusof family held a Farbrengen in Crown Heights to mark Shloshim – 30 days since the passing of Rebbetzin Pesya Matusof, the Rebbe´s Shlucha in Morocco.
Rosh Chodesh Kislev is also the 3rd yahrzeit of their father Rabbi Shlomo Matusof OBM, who was one of the Rebbe first Shluchim and who has built a network of Jewish schools in Morocco.
Attending the event at the Crown Heights Sefardic Center on Albany Avenue (where R’ Shlomo would daven in later years), where also the family’s friends who learnt in those schools in Morocco and are now living around New York.
Speeches were made by Rabbi Mordechai Gourary, Rav of the Chevra Shas shul; Rabbi Mordechai Dubinsky, Rav and Mashpia in Flatbush; and Rabbi Mordechai Avtzon, Head Shliach of China.
Siyumim were made by Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Matusof, Shliach in Toulouse-France; and Rabbi Eli Matusof, member of “Otzar Hachasidim.”
Dr. Hillel Tawil and Dr. Emanuel Pltinsky spoke as well.
Rabbi Menachem Matusof, Head Shliach of Alberta in Canada, added details to a speech he gave on the Thursday night session at the Kinus Hashluchim.
He also welcomed the new Shliach Rabbi Aaron Matusof and wife who had just will establish educational institutions in Calgary.
R’ Gavriel Rubaszkin, who know Mrs. Matusof’s family from the early days of Nevel, a city known among the Chabad Chasimim for its honorable Chassidic community, shared some memories.
Rubaszkin said that in Nevel it was known that her father R’ Yehuda Leib Karasik OBM was one of the 9 Chassidim called in by the Previous Rebbe making a covenant to devote their lives to spread Torah Chassidus.
The family takes pride in that all their children merited to be Shluchim: R’ Yoseph in France, R’ Yehuda Leib in the French city of Cannes, R’ Eli in Kehot, R’ Yonah in Madison Wisconsin, R’ Reuven in the Lishka organization in Paris, R’ Shemaryahu in Yerres, France, R’ Menachem in Alberta, Canada.
Two son in laws are R’ David Abbah Nemanaw of Brooklyn, NY and Dr. Emmanuel Pltinsky in Heyland Park, NJ.
