Yeshiva World News reports:
A massive search is underway in Canarsiel, Brooklyn, Wednesday evening, after a 6 year old child went missing.
Hundreds of volunteers from Hatzolah, Shomrim and Chaveirim are searching for 6 year old Yosef Shapiro.
Yosef was on a day camp trip at a park in Canarsie at Seaview Ave and East 80 Street. The boys left the park on buses at around 3:00PM back to their camp, but Yosef somehow went missing – and may have never gotten on the bus.
A massive NYPD response is combing the area by air, land, and sea. Sources tell YWN that Mayor DeBlasio is aware of the situation, and has requested as many resources as possible.
Yosef was wearing a blue and striped shirt and dark pants.
Please say Tehillim for Yosef ben Basya.
Shomrim has volunteers from Flatbush, Boro Park, Williamsburg, Crown Heights, Staten Island, Far Rockaway.
Hatzolah has volunteers from Canarsie, Flatbush and Boro Park.
UPDATE:
Flatbush Shomrim tweeted: “MISSING CHILD HAS B”H BEEN FOUND! Thanking all volunteers from sister-organizations @BPShomrim @ShomrimCH @RockawayNassau @SISPShomrim and @WspuShomrim as well as all #Hatzolah and #Chaveirim volunteers + 100’s of community members that came out to help us with this search.”

Thank you SO much for all your hard work to find him!!! So happy he is in safe hands
Would be so wonderful to see the responders take this little boys emotional and mental needs into account when they found him. I’m sure a safe and quiet space would have been amazing for him. No flashlights in his face and Walkie talkies and loud voices around him…
Thank you again
Thank you Thank you Hashem !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I REALLY hate to say this so soon, but clearly all of our camps and schools must review and seriously tighten up their safety checks when going on trips..
attendance before getting on bus and on the bus again before driving away is standard safety procedure.
We were all praying!
Thank You Hashem, Moshiach now!
B”H he was found, but now get out of the rain before you catch a cold.
It is exactly 10 years since the tragic passing of Leiby Kletzky hy”d. B”H B”H this time there is a happy ending.
💔
Can’t believe it’s been 10 yrs. Still heartbroken.
i was trying hard to keep that out of my mind, Baruch Hashem he was found!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The King is in the Field.
Thank you Hashem!!
When I was in camp 70-80’s we went on trips of course. Or a family trip I remember always without exceptions. There were always a headcount by each councilor for their bunk. Of course there were times there was 1 short. A bathroom call or what not. But we never ever left anywhere without every one of us. I’m not making any judgments at all. Chasdei Hashem this ended on a happy note. Please please be careful every neshomo is precious.
How did it happen
How did it happen
How did it happen
It must be prevented
B”H the young child was found!!!
Let’s Thank Hashem Everyday (and not take forgranted) that our children go out & come home safely!
Thank you Hashem! Bh for the good news! Many times we take on mitzvos or give Tzidaka in when hearing not good news… This time we should do a mitzva/Tzidaka to say thank you Hashem that he is safely found bh!
He was found b”H in the marshes, which is the tall grass near the ocean, per yeshiva world. I’m sure he was checked for ticks and other mosquito bites which is very important in areas like that.
I’m sure the medical professionals will check here for things they might have forgotten. like this.
B”H he was found. Hard to believe they did not have a “buddy” system in place. Each child or two has another to be accountable for once they return to the bus. That way, if the second or third child is missing, the other assigned “buddies” will notice immediately. Hopefully this will be implemented for all outings year round.
Surely administration is taking notes posted on this site from the people sitting by their computers or phones and providing experienced, knowledgeable and thoughtful advice and instruction.
How could or did it happen – people ask here. You should do XYZ so that this doesn’t happen again – people write here. You should do ABC medically to the child now – people write here. Humans make mistakes. Even machines are not error free. Something happened notwithstanding the day camp’s presumed careful procedures were in place. The day camp will presumably assess their protocol to attempt to prevent a recurrence. The medical professionals will presumably properly evaluate and treat the child. And you who are writing criticism or advice here, might simply want to have and express gratitude that… Read more »
Thanks to Hashem for finding this little boy. Someone should be held responsible for his going missing. You count kids before and after they get one bus
I think the children should not be allowed to exit the bus, this way noone will go missing. Siting inside the bus and watching other people have fun is just as good as having real fun.
