Jews from the Tri State area and beyond gathered Wednesday in the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, for a mass celebration marking the 12th Siyum Hashas, the completion of the Daf Yomi daily learning of Gemara.
With over 90,000 entrance tickets sold, organizers of Agudath Israel of America stated that this event is the largest in history.
Attendees reported a full line of of Hatzalah medical volunteers on hand and heightened security around the Meadowlands Sports Complex. AP reported that 660 police officers were patrolling the stadium and its environs.
Organizers ordered 50,000 ponchos and umbrellas are being permitted as per the scattered thunderstorms forecast. 35,000 towels will be made available to wipe off damp seats on the dais which can seat around 500 rabbis, the court-side VIP seating and the seats around the stadium.
It rained in the beginning but the skies cleared as the program began.
A massive mechitzah partition which took 60 people to construct was be erected to separate – during prayers – the men and women which will be seated in the upper deck of the stadium.
The celebration to mark the end of the cycle cost approximately $4 million, AP was told. Most of it is raised by ticket sales; prices range from $18 to $1,000.
As reported on COLlive.com, a few Chabad rabbonim attended. Rabbi Moshe Bogomilsky was seen right behind the speaker’s podium and Rabbi YY Jacobson was given a prominent spot as well.
In the booklet given out were was an advertisement for “Shas on the Phone,” a free audio service providing classses on Gemara given by R’ Avrohom Karp OBM, a maggid shiur in the Chabad community in Montreal.
Long Island Shliach Rabbi Anchelle Perl tweeted the event live to over 7,000 of his followers on Twitter.
The “Giant stadium is now transformed into a Giant sanctification of the Almighty,” he reported.
Speakers urged the masses to continue to dedicate time every day to learn – whether it is a full daf of Gemera, or Mishna or Chumash.

if you so much about your children try making an example and not using the internet!! You are such a hypocrit. Do you even do chitas or sefer hamitzvos??
there were many women and children as well.
to all those who expressed a positive spin on this. Now that’s what I call menschkeit. Makes me proud and hopeful. Thank you.
Hope that all of klal Israel will join and mashiach will come for us to have the next one as united naition.
Lets hope they put Yossi Jacobson on the program, next year.
all issues aside(its very bad for my blood pressure to go back to a certain ry in bb)ober, moirai vrabboisai, lernen muz men.wae are wonderful and many of us do sit and learn but those of us who do not,now is a good time to get inspired.
Amazing amazing photos. Thanks to the photographer and col
nice crowd shots!!!!!!
kid drops his phone
Rabbi Lipa Brennen was sitting in a prominent place as well
Why is there not a single woman in any of the photographs?
Thank you COL. Your pictures really do capture the moment (well as best any picture can). Go figure, one of the first people I saw there was another lady from Crown Heights. Then I saw someone else I had lost touch with and had always wanted to reconnect. That’s klal Yisroel for you. You can be in a stadium with thousands of people, and somehow you still manage to find people you know!
Baruch Ezagui, many thanks for your amazing photography.
Those awesome images inspire a sense of wonder and deep
pride. What a feeling of achdus.
There is a photo of Mr. Nat Lewin (dancing with reb Eli Slavin).
To 14 :To be a bit clearer. Find the hanocha of Shelach 5748 and all will be clear.Suffice it to say that at the 5750 siyum (2 years before 27 Adar) there was no mention of it and no Lubavitch presence.I wonder if RYK was there at the top table. At that point the accepted “Godol Hadar” by everyone at the “top table” was a certain RY from BB who said the most vile things about chassidim and The Rebbe himself. This was considered “Daas Torah “.It would do us well to learn from The Rebbes hanhoga torwards those who spoke against… Read more »
Very interesting stuff. What is your source?
Why must you always look for a negative even in something so positive???and who the heck says Lubavitchers don’t learn shas on a REGULAR basis? just because our derech is not to shout our tzidkus from the rooftops doesn’t mean we don’t learn. and last but not least, It is absolutely clear that we have a leader who was ridiculed for years by many of these ninety some thousand people last night for accepting “goyim” as they called not frum Jews, totally ignoring that he probably learnt more Shas in a day than they did collectively in seven years. But… Read more »
I was at the live hookup & thought the whole event was amazing. Every single speaker came through with 2 pieces of advice: LEARN MORE, & ACHDUS – AHAVAS CHINUM. I think it’s time that so called Lubavitchers woke up & see that there is a world of hundreds of thousands of Ehriche Yidden out there that learn everyday for hours, just LeShaim Shomayim. They aren’t out “TO GET” anyone. I am sure most of those criticizing don’t learn a daf a week, let alone a day. The REBBE would have been proud of this tremendous Knisa of Klal Yisroel.… Read more »
Rabbi Yehuda Krinsky was also there, he was on the top table.
was there & was seated in a very prominent position
this is a simcha of klal yisroel, and like it or not we are part of klal yisroel
thats actually awesome
They divided shas by giving 10 lines to each person to learn at the siyum and shas was completed.
and you say clear? to many “clear “meant positive and from your post it doesn’t seem that you knew his clear opinion.
our leader followed the daf hayomi and even made a siyum each time at farbrengens accordingly. don’t want to to elaborate on the net as to why too many it is unclear, but clearly this is something he encouraged gave brochos etc. This is clearly a beautiful achdus and so inspiring etc.
We have a leader and he has a clear opinion.FYI this isn’t the first massive siyum. There was a huge one in MSG in 1990.Not only do we have a leader with an opinion but he quoted his leader who had a clear opinion.
R’ Yossel & Mendy Carlebach helped with the security measures as chaplains.
thank you for the wonderful hookup the zchus sol dir beishtein
hope to be by the next siyum iy”h in 2020
Mazel Tov to Michael D. for finally finishing the shas! We are all so proud of you. Can’t wait for you to start over again. The Siyum Hashas is something that all Yidden can look forward to and strive for. May we all see the coming of Mashiach speedily in our days. Amen.
This live video is amazing, and very inspiring. Thank you so much for the opportunity to see it live.
its in these times that we see that there is no clear Lubavitcher voice on whats our opinion. Everyone is just giving their best guess:(

Kal v’chomer
Maybe this will inspire more lubavitcher to have a Kvises Itim Batorah everyday….mazel tov
mazel tov to my husband mordechai for learning the shas
The medical and security measures are all due to the leadership of Menachem Freeman of Crown Heights Hatzolo.
