The Maimonides School in Albany NY, directed by Rabbi Yisroel and Rochel Rubin, is now celebrating its fortieth year since 1980. The school’s annual dinner was cancelled due to Coronavirus, and instead, an online campaign aims to raise $40K in 40 Hours for the school’s 40th Year, each dollar to be doubled.
The Maimonides services local community families, as well as area Shluchim who travel up to eighty miles for their children to receive quality education.
The school invests tremendous energy and love into Chinuch and is renowned for its pioneering creative out-of-the-box style and balanced wholesome integration.
Maimonides students worked to further The Torah Times, create Torah Times News, and is one of the only schools to have a grand Lag BaOmer Parade each year. The school’s weekly “MC” newsletter is acclaimed by educators and alumni around the world. Special programs including WOW (Wide Open Windows), TNT (Torah & Technology), APPS (learning applications), STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) Labs and Makerspace, as well as other enrichment.
While the physical building is closed since March, online and remote classes have continued throughout in a robust transition. Maimonides stretches every dollar to the max, but as an upstate out-of-town school can’t do it alone, and needs the support of its beloved alumni and friends, especially in these uncertain times.
The 40-hour campaign will include four student-made game-shows, slideshows of a photo archive spanning forty years and the School Shoes Shoestring video. “Our goal is to give our alumni and friends the opportunity to share and reflect on cherished childhood memories,” said Rabbi Yisroel and Rochel Rubin, directors of the school. “These flashback photos, looking back at the early enjoyable formative childhood years, offer precious moments of comfort and relief, especially appreciated during the current pandemic and unrest.”
