Boca Raton Synagogue is back again with a symposium TED Talk-style event for Yud-Shevat.
After a massively successful Yud-Tes Kislev Farbrengen (standing room only), entitled “Chaos & Controversy” featuring Rabbi Manis Friedman and Rabbi Efrem Goldberg, another grand event is scheduled for Jan 9- 7th Shevat.
This farbrengen will celebrate 70 Years of the Rebbe’s leadership and revolutionary perspective towards Jews and the world at large. Local and visiting scholars will share in just 10 minutes each their understanding and perspective as to the Rebbe’s Radical Approach To Kiruv.
The event will be streamed live starting at 7:30 PM ET on COLlive.com.
Rabbi Manis Friedman will begin the night by addressing the sensitive topic of “Why The Rebbe Didn’t Like The Word Kiruv.”

I was so relieved when I read the title of Rabbi Friedman’s talk because there is (at least) one well-known story when the Rebbe rebuked someone who said he was involved in “Kiruv.” As a BT from many decades ago, I really appreciate and certainly benefitted personally from the Rebbe’s attitude and vision.
The Rebbe had no problem with the word kiruv. the problem was with the phrase kiruv rechokim
this was an exceptionally important evening. really appreciate this!
