New York City’s Premier and Largest Chanukah event will begin Sunday, December 18th at 4:00 pm at the Grand Army Plaza entrance to Prospect Park. A who’s who of NYC’s elected officials are expected to be on hand to join the celebration. Mayor Eric Adams will be honored with lighting the first candle.
The free community event will feature the world-famous Zusha live in concert, in addition to hot latkes and special gifts for the children.
Recent NYPD statistics show Anti-Semitic hate crimes in NYC soared 125 percent in November. Rabbi Shimon Hecht, Director of Chabad Park Slope, believes the holiday of Chanukah couldn’t come soon enough. “This menorah is a towering icon of freedom from oppression and hate. Its size and light share a booming message of our people’s miraculous perseverance and steadfast commitment to our traditions.”
As this is a year of Hakhel, organizers are preparing for a special show of unity. Hot apple cider will be served to early arrivals.
