Wow you folks are really an inspiration for all Jews. From Hunter College in NYC to Bridgeport Medical School and Yeshivaj Gedolah of Bridgeport, you are my kind of people. Keep working on behalf of the Jewish people and the community, study lots of Torah both Gemorrah and Chassidus — and your efforts will shine within your beautiful children and family and also give you the strength to maximize your good work in all that you do.

I think its amazing what you have done. You are a real inspiration to many who takes off time with such a busy schedule to learn Gemoro.

I think the issue here is why are Chabad Houses not more aggressive in Shiurei Torah — the way we did it 15 years ago!

This is David Levi. I am a student of Rabbi Boruch Shalom Jacobson, shaliach of Hunter College of New York City. The thing you have to understand is that Rabbi Jacobson never told me I had to do anything. What he did do was create programs that offered students an opportunity to have a meaningful Jewish experience. Where we went from there was up to us. Me not being able to learn Gemara is no ones fault, but my own. Considering my upbringing and my current situation in life (3 kinderlach, medical student) I struggle with my learning in general,… Read more »

“derech in nigleh of chabad” ??
what do you mean by this there is “derech in nigleh of chabad” they way “Derech” to learn is the same by Chabad and not Chabad, just go as Rabbi Cohen from melbourne or Schochet from LA etc.

achdus is right

nuu shluchei torah they are it in that community and if you cannot speak for your principles then someone will find them elsewhere like a store im reffering to importantly koch in a nigleh sicha of the rebbe after learning the background material if you just cannot explain the derech in nigleh of chabad why not find it elsewhere its a free country to find your connection to hashem

maybe this is a great way for different people to provide different needs as a cohesive community

Congratulations!

coming up JLI courses October 2009: MysSpace/YourSpace: Is My Life any of your Business? This course addresses modern-day issues that teens often think about: Abortion, suicide and self-harm, drugs and alcohol, extreme sports and avoiding danger, terrorism, the value of money and life, and one’s obligation to strangers. January 2010: Welcome to Hollywood: Jewish wisdom on fame, romance and the pursuit of happiness This course explores Hollywood culture and values including issues such as fame, rebellion, drugs, love and friendship. to all,
i went through the system and learned “Gemara’ a lot,
let me tell you that the real chasdisha Bochrim joke about the guys who REALY lern and koch in to “Gemara”, and DONT DEAR to lern Gamra on Shabas, there is only a few people-Teachers that realy give you a chayas and derech and TEACH YOU HOW TO LERN in Gamra like Rabbis Leibel Schapiro Miami etc or Rabbi YM Wolberg.
most of the rest just repeat the Rishonim and Achronim or are way to deap for the normal and even smart guy to understand.

As a Shliach I am insulted by this comment. You can not fathom the impact JLI and such programs have had on people’s lives, introducing them to Torah and Yiddishkeit. Without these programs in place, there would be no mekuravim to teach Gemmarah. If I am mekarev a Yid through another means of Torah learning and then he moves to a “Yeshivish community where he starts to learn Gemmararah, so be it. This would be a peulah nimsheches of what has begun in the Chabad House.

#1 This fine young man and family are der Rebbes kinder. Let’s thank the Rebbes shluchim for bringing them home. NOT BASHING! To the litvishe yeshiva kol hakavod. The Friediker Rebbe said in a Sicha in America that although the velt are laughing at our ahavas yisroel work at the end they will join us although they will deny who the Koach Hameorar was.Mamash Nevua MOSHIACH NOW!!!!

To daf gemoro
July 16, 2009 11:16 am

Why do you automatically assume that the shliach didn’t offer gemara learning? Maybe at that point in time he wasn’t interested or didn’t have time? FYI the point of the JLI courses was to teach people in depth Torah in a contemporary package so that people would want to come. Announcing that you’re teaching Gemara doesn’t always bring people in droves.

daf gemoro?
July 16, 2009 10:32 am

Can the Shliach who was mekarev Levi stand up? How do we mekarev people without teaching them Gemoro? Our Chabad houses have to start teaching our basics instead of JLI courses.
