You will find Devorah Benjamin standing on the corner of Kingston and President Street, on a cold, rainy Sunday in May.
She is marrying off 60 couples this wedding season and so many of them have no one to turn to but her. She smiles and promises them everything will be okay but her pockets are empty.
I work with youth, bochurim and deal with a lot of engaged chassanim as well as Kallahs, and she has to send them away empty-handed because she has little to none left to offer.
This community needs to marry off our children. We all know at least one couple getting married, if everyone can give $18 in honor of every chosson and kallah we know.
In a few weeks, she is doing a charidy fundraising campaign – and she needs matchers.
So many complain that there is a “shidduch crisis” in this community. What did the Rebbe say when asked for advice? Give to a tzedakah that addresses your cause!
Give in dividends of 18, Chai, life, give what you can but give. Every family needs to empty out their pockets just as the yiddin received the Torah and experienced joy with Hashem, let’s marry off these couples with infinite joy, simcha and iYH spread that to all those in need.
Devorah is at every wedding – those that need help and those that don’t. She does her work with humility, dignity and goes to great lengths to protect the privacy of every couple. On that rainy Sunday, she shivers and looks up, asking Hashem to help her write that check. Holding her hand out for a quarter, a dollar bill, asking the Rebbe to give her strength.
Additionally, so many wonderful tzaddikim of Crown Heights, musicians, photographers, party planners, who go to great length to provide subsidized pricing.

Also of note are the other incredible organizations, like Ten Yad, Nechama’s Closet just to name a few, that help provide unimaginable assistance to couples starting their life out.
