A resident of Crown Heights recently read a news report about a group of Chassidim in Montreal who reached out to their non-Jewish neighbors during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The chassidim gave out home-baked goods in appreciation of their neighbors’ understanding and tolerance of the porch minyanim being held outdoors as the shuls were closed by government’s orders.
“It was well-received in Montreal and so I decided to follow suit,” the resident told COLlive.com on Friday.
She reached out to her fellow neighbors and the idea was met with great enthusiasm. Dozens of cookies were baked in collaboration and beautiful packages prepared along with a note.
This past Friday, over 40 home-baked packages were delivered to the non-Jewish homes on Union Street, between Kingston and Albany Avenues.
The recipients were extremely appreciative and expressed how much they enjoy the davening and welcome the prayers, she reported.
“At such a time we can all use extra prayers,” one of the gentile neighbors responded.
It has spread a message of warmth and caring and good feeling between neighbors, the Jewish resident said. “Hopefully, this will ripple through our neighborhood and continue to spread the positive message.”
kiddush Hashem big time!!!!!!
really nice such a good idea!!!:)))
Ur paying it fwd!! Kol Hakavod!!
Many non-Jewish neighbors are people of faith. It is so important to connect to them on that level. The next step is to teach classes about the Sheva Mitzvos! Crown Heights can become a community that role models harmony, BE”H!
