Even in America, rights are not necessarily values. Take the First Amendment for example, it says that “Congress shall make no law … abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press” that means that there is a right to say whatever you want (with limited exceptions), including saying not nice things. That does not mean that saying mean things are an American value. There is no contradiction to supporting free speech and being a 100% frum yid. Next, you claim that it is not okay to dislike one who is of one political party and to like others from… Read more »

I am so glad and relieved that someone came out with this article. This puts into words exactly how I feel about politics. In this election cycle I’m against Trump. I lost count of how many times people questioned my Yiddishkeit and chassidishkeit for joining “the liberals.” I kept trying to tell them this exact thing: that Republicans are no more Torah-based than Democrats! Neither represent our values so we have to choose who we think will do the best job for our country (which, in this case, in my opinion is anyone but Trump). Remember when wearing a yechi… Read more »

We very much disagree about which party in this election is better for the country and for Yiddishkeit. However, the point of the article is that which party you support in an election has nothing to do with your Yiddishkeit and chassidishkeit. I am a frum person who davens and learns and keeps halacha and is mekushar to the Rebbe. We disagree about politics. So what?

Biden would be deemed unable to act as president… so it would be President Harris, VP Pelosi (House Speaker is 3rd in line), Sanders in charge of the budget, Gov Cuomo as Attorney General…
While you are certainly entitled to believe this would be better for the country, I hope you have enough sense to understand why others don’t prefer the policies they espouse/enforce.

Plain and simple, Trump is doing a very poor job and should be replaced. He also acts extremely immature. Now you can disagree and think he’s doing a great job and you’re fine with his immaturity. You are entitled to your opinion, You do you. The point of the article, which I strongly agree with, is not to define your Yiddishkeit by which candidate they support or to question the Yiddishkeit of someone else who disagrees with you. At the end of the day it’s another Yid who simply has a different opinion.

The Alte Rebbe fought a war for the for the Czar that was far worse then Trump. why is it that some ppl just cant seem to be on the right side even when so much is at stake? (shlaomus haaretz, safety in america, rubashkin, school choice….)

October 19, 2020 12:05 am

According to this logic, the Rebbeim should have loved the maskilim and yesevtzke and yoshkeh instead of fighting them tooth and nail and cursing them out. There is a time and place for everything. The reshoim on the left want to obliterate Yiddishkeit and belief in Hashem. They deserve not one ounce of Dan lekaf zchus. Time for some serious introspection and desperately needed leadership. No this has nothing to do with Democrat and Republican in of itself but everything to do where those parties have currently and clearly aligned themselves.

the rebbe said many times , chabad should stay far away from politics. However the author speaks at length about the constitution and how it enables us freedom of religon more than any country. Well he is very ignorant of current events and the political scene. Because if the democrats have their way , the supreme court will for sure interpet (erroneously) the constitution in the most anti religoius way, with tragic results for religious freedom. (Circumsicion, shechitah, edjucation, alternative marriage, Menorahs in public and much more)

…and, per the Rebbe’s instructions, nothing political should be done in Chabad’s name, HOWEVER…

…it is imperative to vote Trump for our safety and security. #MAGA!
