The Shmuel Zahavy Cheder Chabad of Toronto held a most successful dual language Readathon to raise money to help terror victims in Eretz Yisroel, buy Passover needs for their families.
Being a successful bilingual Cheder, children were able to read books in English and or in Yiddish. Many hours were spent reading, said satisfied parents who felt that the program was most successful.
“Our goal of increasing our students’ love for reading was B”H accomplished,” said the Principal Rabbi Baruch Zaltzman.
With a combined reading sum of 22,000 minutes = 360 plus hours of reading time in three weeks, the students raised over $2,300 for Colel Chabad to distribute directly to families in Israel. The children enjoyed reading with a higher purpose of supporting our brethren in the holy land.
At a special assembly, their efforts were acknowledged with the distribution of certificates for each participant, along with beautiful pen and pencil sets and treats which were accorded depending on the amount of time spent reading. A class party was held for the classes with the highest average per student of minutes read.
The main reward was the excitement and satisfaction of doing such an important mitzvah. Many thanks to our dedicated rebbeim and teachers who have encouraged their pupils to read. The program was coordinated by Mrs. Yentie Zaltzman, the G. S. Director.
goooo schneur m. you are the best.

Go cheder Toronto. Keep the Yiddish alive as long as possible. When your students grow older into yeshiva, is when they will not stop thanking for gifting them this language. Koodos to the rebbeim who successful implement the Yiddish while not compromising on the torah learned. Kol hakavod.
