Every year right after Rosh Chodesh Kislev, a Grand Raffle takes place at the Rebbe’s Diamond Daveners – Kol Yaakov Yehuda (KYY) – “the Shul for the kids by the kids” in Los Angeles.
Each year, the prize is a different destination in the world to see the Rebbe’s Moisdos. The way one enters into this Grand Raffle depends on the Mispallel’s attendance in the Junior Congregation every Shabbos. Whenever a Mispallel attends they get a boarding pass that after the full year gets placed in the raffle box.
A special Melavah Malka was held recently where the raffle took place. For the first time in 8 years – since the inception of KYY – the winner was a congregant from the Ezras Nashim, Tzaity Raichik from Los Angeles.
Tzaity will be heading to Australia for a five day trip visiting the Rebbe’s Moisdos. She will be wined and dined throughout her sightseeing trip. “I am beyond ecstatic to be the Zocha B’gorel,” was Tzaity Raichik’s response when her boarding pass was picked from over 1,000 other tickets.
Previous winners of KYY include: Meir Thaler to Crown Heights, Yisroel Eichenblatt to the City of Lubavitch, Chayim Marks to Chevron, Israel, Mendel Gross to Troyes, France, Mendy Richler to Vienna, Austria, and last year Shlomo Stark to Prague, Czechoslovakia.
KYY meets every Shabbos in the Hancock Park area of Los Angeles. Over 200 Mispallelim attend the davening from Congregation Levi Yitzchak, Congregation Bais Menachem, Yeshiva Ohr Elchonon, Yavneh Hebrew Academy, Congregation Ahavas Yisroel and Bais Chaya Mushka.
