Members of the Lubavitch community in Netanya, Israel, are anxious to meet the man who generously donated his kidney to their friend – R’ Yisrael Kasantini.
The 54 year-old Chossid was in desperate need of a kidney transplant when he contacted Rabbi Avrohom Leider, Director of the Brooklyn-based Avahas Chesed medical assistance organization.
Stepping up to the plate was Rabbi Mendy Mathless, a young Shliach in Albany, NY. Their results came back as positive that they were a match, and the two underwent surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan in December 2010.
Although Kasantini’s family and friends have seen photos of the donor when the two attended a Chanukah party in Crown Heights in their honor, they still wished to meet Mathless in person and thank him.
So Mathless and Leider will be flying to Israel in the coming week and will be the guests of honor at a special Farbrengen in the Bais Menachem Chabad shul in Kiryat Nordau in Netanya, hosted their Rabbi Menachem Wolpo.
“We hope that Mendy’s brave act will inspire many others to do the same,” Rabbi Leider noted.
Rabbi Leider did a great mitzvah here! I got to know him through my work helping people who need a kidney. He is a special person! Mendy & his wife – wonderful people too!
Wishing you all lots of mazal, bracha and hatzlacha and good health!
Best wishes,
