Despite the many restrictions imposed upon the citizens of Slovakia during this pandemic, Chabad of Central Europe, under the leadership of Shluchim Rabbi Zev and Bina Stiefel, achieved their own Purim miracle this year.
Jews across the country, many of whom live far from each other, were thrilled with the Purim celebrations they were able to experience.
200 Mishlochei Manot packages were delivered across the country, as were 70 Purim meals.
A few Megillah readings took place in two more populated cities: Piestany and Kosice, allowing families and individuals to travel to hear the Megillah.
Purim ended with a huge Zoom event that connected Yidden across Slovakia. Participants enjoyed a variety of stories, musical entertainment and for the children, a magic show.
The response to everything was extremely positive. As one person said afterwards, even in a pandemic we aren’t forgotten, and we can still celebrate Purim, even keeping away from others!
Rabbi and Mrs. Stiefel are now pushing full steam ahead with Pesach preparations, making sure as many Jews in Slovakia As possible will receive Shmura matzah and other Pesach necessities. It will be a different Pesach than in previous years, but everyone will experience Pesach!
