#13: The Enigma
September 10, 2013 3:56 am

From personal experience I can tell you that Rabbi Simon Jacobson is one of the warmest and kindest people you will ever meet. He may appear as a maskil, aloof and detached. I admit, that was how I always thought of him. But then a personal crisis led me to his door, and I was quite suprised, if not shocked, at his graciousness, elegance and empathy. He gave me all the time i needed, listened patiently, with care, and gave me excellent advice. So I can testify that as great as his mind may be, his heart is greater. Enigma… Read more »

Loved watching this! Thank you to some of the most insightful and warm and genuinely caring people I have ever met. I almost didn’t feel worthy to get an inside glimpse into a marriage of people who I so deeply admire. The rabbi and Shaindy are equally tremendous in their talents and capabilities. Although the experience of a Shaindy’s challah might be just a bit better than the Toward a Meaningful Life read ;))

Wow! Newfound respect

Rabbi Simon Jacobson is known for his brilliance and profound knowledge of Chassidus, with a unique ability to take the deepest concepts and present them in relevant terms. But this deeply personal and sensitive side of him has never, at least to my knowledge, really been seen. They say in the name of one of the Polish Rebbe’s that no one knows the true nature of a person except for G-d, and perhaps also one’s wife. For myself, an avid reader and listener to his writings and talks, it is tremendously insightful and uplifting to see him express such eloquence… Read more »

So much humanity and depth all rolled into one! Thanks for posting this. A true kiddush hashem. Finally, people not hiding behind smokescreens and crutches. Just expressing their very human, and very chassidic, souls.
We can all learn from this — time to integrate our Yiddishkeit into healthy and honest relationships. The true meaning of Achdus Hashem.

Question

At 30:10 Simon says”Men don’t have room for people outside of them… its not just a biological thing its a spiritual thing” is this true ?where is the source?

Thank you for sharing!

The love shines through K”A”H, despite the humor. Thank you for making yourselves vulnerable in order to help others!

Definitely coming to the JLI retreat next year – IF THE JACOBSONS DO THIS SORTA THING AGAIN.

An obvervation

For a discussion about marriage, love and friendship led by a couple – the husband and wife are standing very far apart

To the organizers: It would have been more fitting for both to be standing equal (not the woman behind/protected by the podium). They could have been seated on a stool or sofa

Thank you
