Izzy’s BBQ Smokehouse is returning to indoor dining at its Crown Heights location after a prolonged period when it was forbidden due to Covid regulations.
Employees said they were disappointed that city and state officials did not communicate the message in a clearer way, as many food establishments go bankrupt due to the pandemic.
The popular kosher eatery has been relying on outdoor dining, even during the cold periods of the New York winter, and has upped its take-out and delivery service.
Sruly Edelman, its owner and chief pitmaster, has certainly not rested during this time.
He recently inaugurated the second branch of Izzy’s BBQ Smokehouse at 660 Amsterdam Avenue, between 92nd and 93rd Streets, in the Upper West Side of Manhattan.
The new location, which previously housed a pizzeria, is also certified by the OK Kosher Supervision and was designed By Neil Schwartz of TNB Architecture.
“The dining area itself is a feast for the eyes, not to mention the tastes to come – and the smells!” said Elan Kornblum of GreatKosherRestaurants.com. “The smokehouse relies on a 24-hour crew to help supervise the fires that smoke day and night: luckily the smell of beef, lamb, and poultry smoking over oak and cherry woods is delicious to be around on a constant basis.”
The menu features some of the classics they became known for such as 18-hour smoked prime brisket, pulled beef, fatty brisket points smocked twice and drenched in house bbq sauce and half-smoked bbq chicken, along with dino ribs, lamb ribs and Thai sticky ribs.
“Everything on the menus is amazing,” Leor Shadia reported on the Great Kosher Restaurant Foodie group. “Can’t go wrong with literally anything on the menu.”
They have sandwiches, burgers, appetizers, sides and a full taqueria menu of tacos, nachos, rice bowl.
