Dozens of teens from Chabad of NDG headed by Rabbi Israel Bernath joined the Chai Center this past Sunday to prepare for its annual Toys For A Smile event for Chanukah, the Jewish Festival of Lights. Working tirelessly, they packed teddy bears, toy cars, dolls, board games and puzzles, which they then carried to children’s hospitals, orphanages, the homes of underprivileged families, etc.
“This is one of the most humble moments for our teens to experience,” says the famous Rocking Rabbi, David Lazar of the Chai West. “It is not always about the teens having fun but it’s also about giving back to the community and experiencing the joy of giving.”
The Chai Center, from the Hebrew word ‘Chai’ meaning ‘life’, is a people-helping-people organization. Seen here, from left to right, are David Quedoshim, Yan Lahiany, and Judith Hassan displaying their gift-wrapping skills (and their generosity of spirit) for our camera.
