Just in time for the New Year, Chabad of Central Cascades in Issaquah, Washington, welcomed a new Torah scroll. Hundreds of the Jewish community residents carrying torches danced through the streets. A decorated truck led the procession with Klezmer musicians playing lively music.
What began five years ago in a quiet living room is now a vibrant community center. It is a dream come true.
In the summer of 2005, Rabbi Shalom Dovber (Berry) and Nechama Farkash arrived in Central Cascades. Five years later, with the generous help of the community, Mr. Mendel and Chana Fischer of New York, and R. Shalom Ber and Hannah Lapidus of Buenos Aires, Argentina, the community celebrated the completion of a new Torah Scroll.
Joining the celebration were honorees Mr. Mendel and Chana Fischer of New York, as well as Rabbi Shmuel Chaim Dovid and Gittel Fischer of Jerusalem, and Rabbi Yosef and Shaina Friedman of New York.
Washington Head Shliach Rabbi Sholom Ber Levitin, Florida University Shliach Rabbi Levi Yitzchok Friedman, Washington Shliach Rabbi Mordechai Farkash, Mr. Duddy Farkash and Rabbi Yosef Friedman spoke.
The Torah was dedicated at the Chabad Center, in memory of Rabbi Gavriel and Rivky Holtzberg OBM, Shluchim to Mumbai.
