The wedding of Sara Benezra and Reuven Mizrahi took place Sunday in Crown Heights, and they were joined in the celebration by the entire Crown Heights community.
Sara, from California, is a student in Machon L’Yahadus, and Reuven, from Florida, is a student in Hadar Hatorah Yeshiva.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, neither the chosson or kallah’s parents, siblings or family were able to fly in to New York to attend the wedding.
Still, the couple celebrated their wedding with hundreds of people – thanks to the efforts of their friends.
The couple’s friends surprised them with a Rolls Royce convertible after the Chuppah, which they drove through the neighborhood. They invited local residents, “their Crown Heights family,” to come out of their homes and celebrate with them.
And join the community did – coming out of their homes to join in clapping, cheering, and dancing, with musical instruments, costumes and juggling fire.
The couple had a heartfelt message of thanks for the Crown Heights community.
“Thank you so much for celebrating with us and bringing so much simcha to our special day,” Sara said. “It couldn’t have been more special than to celebrate with the whole community.”
