A Jewish resident of Crown Heights is warning about a man who was seen hanging out near 770, and began speaking to him about ‘comparative religion’ studies.
“I was sitting on Eastern Parkway, not too far from 770, and this man sat next to me. He started a conversation, and after some time I began to suspect he may be a missionary,” the Lubavitcher told COLlive.com.
The man is described as about 5″11, with blondish hair, and had a Dutch accent. He was wearing a blue shirt.
“He was holding a coffee from a kosher cafe and was talking about Chabad and Tanya, so at first I didn’t realize,” the bochur said. “He was very friendly and asked me what I was learning. But it was very sneaky because then he started commenting on what I said I was learning and said he studies ‘comparative religion.'”
“I asked him straight up if he is a missionary, and he replied, ‘every good Christian has some missionary in them.'”
“Eventually, he told me, ‘we have a place not too far from here with lunch and bible learning,'” the Lubavitcher said.
“I thought it would be important to spread this information and warn people to be wary of who you get into conversations with,” he said.
Sounds like the man was polite and upfront. Why not ask him to join a farbreingen instead?
Thank you for taking the time to warn us. Especially at a time that summer is approaching and the streets will be emptier. IF YOU SEE SOMETHING SAY SOMETHING. If you see a child, bachur, man or woman in a suspicious situation please act on your instincts or wait around to see if they need your help. We need to take care of each other.
This guy has been featured on these sites b4. I think I ran into him (or his predecessor) almost almost 50 years ago in Eretz Yisrael where he was calm and collected as people ripped up his materials and threw them at him.
Is this the same guy I ran into in Eretz Yisrael in 1973. He’s been on these news sites before. Maddeningly calm and collected.
He’s probably just trying to get a token Orthodox Jew into his discussion group so that his “comparative religion” work has Judaism represented. Not saying anybody should join him, but let’s not make this any more than it is.
If that we’re the case he would have disclosed that information at some point in time…which he supposedly did not do! Imagine if would’ve been speaking to a boy that has questions about his own beliefs? This is not good, and must be exposed..so thank you for doing so.
It has been my experience about someone
starting a conversation with you. It begins
with something like ordinary world news, health
topic, etc. Then this person steers the topic to
Israel or religion.
You hear all sorts of wonderful things about
Jews, Israel, etc. Makes you feel so flattered.
Finally is the “punch line”: Yushka.
We got to find out where it is to warn people
