The Torah Academy Boys High School in Johannesburg has seen a major transformation in the past few months.
After a five-year hiatus, the Shluchim program has been reinstated, led by the school’s new principal, Rabbi Yossi Chaikin.
As JJ Duchman and Mendel Zaltzman arrived in Johannesburg, the hallways immediately filled with a brand new vibe: passion, excitement and love for yiddishkeit.
The boys started to fill their breaks and weekends with fun and inspiring programs with the shluchim, reinvigorating their school routine. Whether through a farbrengen, one on one learning or just a typical Sunday “jol” the students have felt proud to be Jewish, with their new “older brothers” instilling an energy and excitement in all they do.
In preparation for Yud Shvat the Shluchim presented their best program yet. With most of the students coming from various different types of backgrounds, they set out to “connect the links.” The boys were asked to “bring in” their family and friends and include them in our mission, as the seventh generation, through true Ahavas Yisroel.
The students busied themselves in and out of school with learning Basi Legani, going out on mivtzoim, reading stories of the Rebbe at their supper table, and much more.
The Mivtzah culminated with a full-day seminar, on Yud Shvat, at Chabad of Strathavon, organized by the shluchim. They enjoyed a delicious breakfast and heard from world-renowned speakers, Rabbi Mendel Duchman, who flew in from Los Angeles for the occasion, and Rabbi Ari Shishler.
