Leah Barouk, lovingly known to many as the beloved “Morah Leah,” is in need of a life saving bone marrow transplant with little time left to spare.
A long time preschool teacher at LEC, Leah is also the mother of two active Hatzlah members who have saved lives; please help us save hers!
Leah comes from a Sefardic background, but being she is partly Ashkenaz, it has been difficult to find a match. If you are of Sefardic origin or have a mixed Sefardic/Ashkenazi background, you have a higher chance of being a match for Leah.
Everyone from age 18-60 can help and has the possibility to be a match. It takes only a few minutes to register and do a cheek swab to see if you are a match.
A Bone Marrow Drive is being held TODAY in Crown Heights on Monday, August 20, from 3:00 pm-9:30 pm at Lubavitch Yeshiva on Crown Street.
Please note : The actual donation process, in this case (as well as in most cases) is not a surgery and is similar to giving blood platelets.
If you live out of town and are unable to attend this drive, there’s an option for you to register with “Gift of Life” online and they will send you a swab kit in the mail. Click on this link:
https://www.giftoflife.org/dc/Match4MorahLeah . Click “get swabbed.” You can register there.
If you are not a match for Morah Leah, you can be a match for someone else and save a life! There are unfortunately other Yidden currently looking for matches that need your help! Most databases are connected and if you join one, the others gain as well. You can help Morah Leah, you can help Roni in Israel, and you can help the other Yidden out there who are anxiously waiting for the day they receive the call that a match has been found. Thank you!
Generally they won’t tell you until after the procedure, and then only if the recipient is willing.
And wish her a complete refuah
