Do parents have the right to choose where they send their child to school?
Can you choose to give your child a full Jewish education?
These are basic human rights, parents in most countries can say an unequivocal ‘yes!’ to.
Today, we need your help, to help Sweden’s Jewish children regain this freedom.
Under the Lubavitcher Rebbe’s directives, Rabbi Alexander & Leah Namdar instituted the first Chabad house in Scandinavia, in Gothenburg Sweden, Establishing Chabad of Sweden in 1991.
Today, there are Chabad centers in the 3 major cities of Sweden and all the Scandinavian capitals.
Chabad Sweden means something unique for each and every individual. For some it’s a home away from home, for others it’s a summer camp, the only time of the year that they have the opportunity to spend with friends. For some it’s a source of spirituality and warmth, for others it is a place they come to learn, to live, to thrive. And to feel at home as a Jew.
Today Chabad of Sweden needs your help.
In 2010 Sweden passed a law that would prohibit homeschooling in the country to the exception of special cases or the child’s specific needs, if not heeded accordingly steep fines were to follow.
Jewish education they argued is not a special case or a specific need they claimed.

FOR THE NEXT 28 HOURS ONLY Every single dollar YOU give to Chabad of Sweden will be matched by 2 extraordinary partners to reach our goal of $150,000.
Every dollar is TRIPLED!
The Campaign is ALL OR NOTHING! We either reach the goal or all the Money is returned!
We have only 28 Hours to complete the goal!
This campaign will help in two areas:
1. Towards the steep legal fees in the legal battle protecting Jewish children’s rights to uncompromised Jewish education
2.Expand Chabad’s programming efforts and support the steady growth of our camps. We need YOU to help us get there!
Motivated by his profound love for every Jew and spurred by his boundless optimism and self-sacrifice, the Rebbe set into motion a dazzling array of programs, services and institutions to serve every Jew.
Chabad of Sweden is committed to serving Jews of all backgrounds and affiliations who wish to learn more about their Jewish roots and offers a wide variety of educational and spiritual opportunities, including Hebrew School, Torah classes, mikva, kosher, mezuza, tefillin and prayer services, publications and notifications, Shabbat dinners and an array of Jewish Holiday programs and activities. Traditional Jewish values are brought to life in a joyous, non-judgemental atmosphere.
Camp Gan Yisroel Sweden for European Tzeirei Hashluchim, aims to provide Tzeirei Hashluchim from all over Europe with an exciting camp experience in a chassidishe environment, enabling them to make new friends with kids just like them in so many ways.
Fellow young Shluchim who live all year on a similar time-zone, who also speak at least one the languages they do, who live lives devoted to the same ideals… chassidishe kinderlach who are growing up on Shlichus, just like them!
I commented as part of my homework. They were perfectly legitimate questions, posed in a very suitable format. COL is helping to ask for funds for the Namdars, a very worthy and noble cause which, by the way, I did participate in. I simply wanted to know more about how they were being limited and how the state would allow them to operate, if at all. Your reply did not answer my questions.
I continue to wish the Namdars hatzlacha and I am honored to be a partner now in their success.
Please do your homework. you clearly lack an understanding for the swedish system and the shluchim’s situation.
They had a thriving jewish day school with incredible ratings for both secular and jewish studies for many years.
the goverment repeatedly worked to close the school – when confronted they said they want to keep GD out of the schools.
May Hashem bless the wonderful Namdar family with much success, joy and happiness.
I donated and encourage all to join this worthy cause
Please donate. We can’t go back to afternoon Talmud Torahs, because the secular schools are not parve like they were in the 50’s and 60’s when morality was the mainstay of any education, and today all children have to have access to Internet to do their homework, and we all know the dangers that lurk there.
Are fantastic and dedicated Shluchim.
First of all, best of luck with your campaign, I will strongly consider donating. I just want to make sure I understand: – Sweden allows for Jewish education, it is just that they will not allow a parent to homeschool for that reason? In other words, if the Namdars want to be able to provide their children and other Jewish children Jewish education they’ll need to open an official school that meets the Swedish education standards? Does that mean even if they have a school it would have to comply with a gov’t sanctioned curriculum? Does Sweden allow for religious… Read more »
Good Luck on your project. Perhaps you should open an after school program where all Jewish children can learn to appreciate and be proud of our beautiful heritage. Surely there would be no opposition to that. My childhood years were spent in Sweden where my Father Harav Yacov Yisroel established the first Chabad community. We had private tutors and when the Danish and Finnish Jewish children were brought to safety in neutrak Sweden, we established a Talmud Torah, an after school program. In the suburbs of Stockholm a Bais Yacov school was later established for young Holocaust survivors in Lidingo.… Read more »
