Seems like he’ll likely do it again.
Even in the nine days I believe a description should be posted to warn people.

There are 10 ways to give Tzedaka, One of them is if the recipient doesn’t know who the giver is. This scammer must have misunderstood that to mean that the giver doesn’t know that he is giving

July 26, 2020 11:19 pm

Is it the same guy who was scamming the Miami community.
He’s been hanging around crown heights for quite a while.
Tall, talks alot, “chaseedish”, smoker.

Grey hair & beard? Wears a kapota on shabbos but not Chabad. Usually always wears a white shirt. If that’s the guy I think I know who he is.
He dresses “ Chassidish” but his actions lead me to believe he’s not Frum.

That guy

Yes should beware that is where he buys drugs and narcotics on shabbos.

July 26, 2020 11:35 pm

That we can’t just feel comfortable doing a toive for a yid, and even a fellow chossid.
May moshiach come now and take us out of this dark golus!!

Glad you got your money back.
July 26, 2020 11:48 pm

Borrow this man’s phone and send all the money back to everyone…

Not nice......
July 27, 2020 12:53 am

A frum yid should make a Kiddush Hashem & not the opposite!

What's his name?
July 27, 2020 1:01 am

People already know not to let others use their phone, especially where money is concerned. It’s common sense
Sorry you were duped, but that was stupid to let someone use your phone. If it sounds shady, it usually is. The only reason to go public would be to publicize the name of the person who did this so others can avoid him. Otherwise, who is this helping?

Be careful
July 27, 2020 1:41 am

Just because he “looks chasseedish “ it doesn’t mean he is a chosid. Let’s be careful

It is helping
July 27, 2020 3:57 am

those who might not think twice! It is warning others! Hello!

#MeToo
July 27, 2020 6:20 am

Late Friday afternoon someone gave me his name and identified himself as Chaseedish, (also talks a lot) and asked me for some change to get back to Williamsburg, because he lost his wallet – and said I could get the change back from him after Shabbos. Unresponsive to my texts to meet me and pay me back… wonder if it’s the same guy.

Police
July 27, 2020 7:37 am

This is apparently a recidivism. Report him to the police. This guys won’t stop otherwise.
(ask a rov first)

Rotten Apples

How awful!
I say call the police!
What a nerve to dress Chassidish , and act like a criminal!

Advice from decades of business experience
July 27, 2020 8:46 am

It is nice that you alerted the community but not enough. Protecing such a person, ignoring them, posting warnings on social media, putting out descriptions and discussing with others is not going to stop a con artist. It is not even enough to warn other communities of such a person as a previous commentator says this person was active in another community. Give your bank fraud department a good acount and the charges might be reversed. Contact the local police fraud department. This is not mosering, it is doing a service to everyone. In fact if you think you are… Read more »

July 27, 2020 11:02 am

It’s possible that you’re allowed (encouraged even?0 to publicize his name and image so people can know and be careful from this person.

Ask a Rov and follow his instructions.

Also operated in Boro Park
July 27, 2020 7:02 pm

A Boro Park chassidic person said that he used to operate there too. Said now if Boro Park Shmira sees him in their neighborhood, they immediately call the cops because among other things, he went behind the counter of a Boro Park shul and got hold of a check from the shul, then wrote himself a very large check and cashed it. Apparently they never got the money back. Someone should call Boro Park Shmira to confirm how to deal with him. This Boro Park resident also said his ex-wife and child seemed to be locked inside his apartment there… Read more »

Name and face
July 27, 2020 7:16 pm

I feel that not sharing his name and face is doing others a disservice. It needs to get around on FB or others will definitely be getting scammed.

Why. No. Picture?
July 27, 2020 7:26 pm

I don’t get the point of chewing over this without showing who he is so that others can know to be extra careful. Please post a picture for something like this. Name doesn’t mean much.

July 27, 2020 10:37 pm

when they went years ago to check on the well being of his x wife and her child from a previous marriage who seemed to possibly be kept from leaving his residence, the concerned chosidim were threatened by him. then the x wife and her child were not seen and he never answered what happened to them or where they are

I mean
July 28, 2020 1:44 am

You handed him your device so that he can enter his information on an application that transfers money from one cashapp to another….
Forget that this guy is a crook, you were played someone who wanted to take advantage of your ignorance.
You NEVER hand a stranger your device unlocked! You should have this app anyways on fingerprint confirmation. This was completely your fault.
