Even before its official release date, a new book about the life and teachings of the Rebbe is generating so much interest that the publishers had extra copies printed.
“Rebbe: The Life and Teachings of Menachem M. Schneerson, the Most Influential Rabbi in Modern History” will land in book stores on Tuesday, June 10, but is already on Amazon’s “Hot New Releases.”
The 640 page book by the acclaimed bestselling author Rabbi Joseph Telushkin is currently ranked #2 on Amazon’s Judaism category.
It tells the “inspiring story of the prominent yet deeply modest leader who rebuilt a dwindling post-holocaust community into the most influential Jewish organization in the world.”
“We’re very excited about this book,” Katherine Beitner, Director of Publicity of HarperCollins Publishers, told COLlive.com. “Not everyday does a book that really impacts people’s lives like this one come around.”
Beitner said that “the feedback and anticipation for the book has been tremendous” as the Jewish world gears up to mark the Rebbe’s 20th yartzeit.
“In fact, because of the number of pre-orders and interest from our distribution system, we chose to increase the amount of books we printed just before it went to the printer,” Beitner said.
Alan M. Dershowitz, professor emeritus of Harvard Law School, said: “Whether you are a believer, an admirer, or a respectful skeptic, you will learn much from this deep and accessible account of a truly great man by a great writer. The Harvard Business School should do a case study of the remarkable ‘business plan’ designed by the Rebbe to promote Jewish values throughout the world.”
Former U.S. Senator Joe Lieberman, known for being personally inspired by the Rebbe and maintaining a close friendship with the Chabad movement, recommended the book to all audiences.
“If you already know about the Rebbe, Rabbi Telushkin’s book will teach you many things you didn’t know, and deepen your admiration,” he wrote. “If you don’t know about the Rebbe, this book will give you not just a very readable biography… but will help you understand why so many of the Rebbe’s followers in religion, business, politics, and the professions have become leaders and how you can too.”
The book will be launched at two events across the country. The first on Sunday, June 8, at the Nessah Synagogue in Beverly Hills, the largest Persian congregation in the U.S., and the second on Thursday, June 12, at Cong. Kehilath Jeshurun in Manhattan.
The book can be pre-ordered for a 33% discount on Amazon.com
