Chabad of Flamingo in Thornhill, Ontario, was recently honored to have a Prime Minister visit at their Grand Opening.
At the event Chabad Shliach Rabbi Mendel Kaplan publicly presented the Prime Minister with a beautiful gold embossed leather-bound copy of the Siddur that they use in the Shul.
After escorting Mr. Harper out, however, the Rabbi took the gift back, explaining that the specially crafted engraved Lucite case wasn’t built right.
Rabbi Kaplan promised to bring the new case and Siddur to Ottawa and present it at the first possible opportunity, and the Prime Minister readily agreed.
By a remarkable stroke of Hashgacha Pratis (Divine providence), the visit was held on Mr. Harper’s 50th birthday, and so the Siddur became a most unique birthday gift as well.

Chaim Mendelsohn is the Shliach in Ottawa that organizes all visits with the parliament there and the Prime Minister. He has a very good relationship with the Prime Minister. He must have helped Mendel Kaplan with this visit as well as the one for his grand opening. Yosher Koiach Chaim Mendelsohn for all the work you do on behalf of Shluchim in Canada!
