A Chabad House has opened today, Sunday, in Australia serving the Jews living in the Carnegie suburb of Melbourne in the state of Victoria.
It will be run by Aussie native Rabbi Zalman Shimon Gutnick.
His father, mining magnate Yosef Gutnik said at the event that after the atrocities in India, where a Chabad couple was murdered, “we should show the world and especially to the heinous terrorists that no power and terror will stop us from fulfilling the Rebbe’s mission to spread Torah and Mitzvos.”
As a philanthropist who has funded in the past many Chabad institutions and buildings, Gutnik said: “We will open a Chabad House in every corner and in every place like we have today.”
The local rabbis and many members of the Jewish community attended the event which also entered a new Torah written in memory of veteran Victoria rabbi Chaim Gutnik OBM.
