Rabbi Shimon Hecht and a team of volunteers met this week with police officials to begin coordinating the security and traffic arrangement for the event.
Leaders at N.C.F.J.E., the umbrella organization that overseas and coordinates the parade, have asked Yankee Teitelbaum of jewishfilms.com and EG Productions to play a lead role in the strategic planning of this year’s parade.
With six weeks left to go, parade coordinators project that this year’s Lag BaOmer parade will be the biggest in Crown Heights’ history.
“We are extremely excited about the upcoming Parade”, said Rabbi Shimon Hecht, parade director. “The Great Parade has become so popular throughout the diverse range of Jewish communities in the tri-state area, that we are expecting crowds in excess of 30,000”.
Organizers have announced that the theme for this year’s Parade will be the “Aseres HaDibros”, the Ten Commandments. The various schools throughout Brooklyn will be assigned one of the commandments to represent, and will be given the opportunity to build a float that expresses the theme of their respective commandment.
Entertainment will be provided throughout the event, with some of the world’s best Jewish singers and choirs performing live. The Parade will be followed by a carnival for children, where there will be rides, food, and a petting zoo.
The Great Parade is a special opportunity to express Jewish unity, bringing together a wide selection of communities from throughout the tri-state area. It is a great way to celebrate the special day of the Rash”bi, as well as a fun, entertaining day out for the kids.
