A group of urban artists are in Israel decorating bomb shelters in the southern Israeli town of Sderot, located a few kilometers from the border of the Gaza Strip and a constant target of katyusha rockets.
Tuesday was the Artists 4 Israel group’s third day in Sderot, where the graffiti artists from the United States, Spain, Mexico and Israel have been busy beautifying the bombarded city’s public bomb shelters.
One of them was the shelter that is home to the local Chabad House run by Shliach Rabbi Moshe Zev Pizem.
Two non-Jewish artists, Miguel Angel Belin from Spain and Sueworks from New York City, were tasked with sketching a portrait of the Rebbe.
The image they were given to draw from was a 20 cm close-up photo of the Rebbe taken in the early 90’s while standing in the main shul in 770 Eastern Parkway, Brooklyn.
Working under the hot Negev sun, the two managed to create what some say may be the largest drawing of the Rebbe.
It’s like the Rebbe is watching over the city, one resident commented.
they should do that in c”h
t-h-a-n-k-y-o-u
im an artists to i have so realy nice things
its beautiful!! cud everyone calm down with their nasty comments”? we dont kno how the rebbe wud have felt so everyone stop saying “oh the rebbe wud b so proud”, “oh the rebbe wud have been so ashamed” etc. i dont THINK the rebbe wud apreciate wat we r doing now! everyone just smile =D the world is AWESUMLY AWESUM!!!!!!!!!!!
Beautiful art and beautiful heart for all those invovled!
how do they do that its phenomenal!!!!!!!!!
BEST GRAFFITI IVE EVER SEEN. every one is saying that the rebbes eyes were blue but i say brown
there are always a few closed minded people who cant help but dig and dig to find something…… anything negative to say, even when there are so many positive comments, keep an open mind, this is a beautiful thing and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it in any way, this is a beautiful and inspiring tribute to the man who gave and still gives so much to the world, and I think this shliach earned the right to pay tribute to our rebbe however he may wish.
Make those beautiful indescribable blue sapphire twinkling loving eyes and it’s ready.
Are you comparing your grandfather to the rebbe and 2 # 26 even if they made a mistake it is souch a source of insparation
Disrespectful!!!
that is amazing!!!!!
come on… wats the difference between a painting and a griffitied picture?
yechi adoneinu morienu v’rabeinu melech hamoshiach leolam voed
whats so disgratefull they are doing a kidus hashem
who really cares about the eyes they arent jews who know who the rebbe looks they probably seen him once (in a picture) they did the best they could
great
is nice!! very nice!! the rebbe is wow!!
moshiach now!
its a nice piece of work but it should have been in a better location the rebbes face should not be in a back alley with garbage
I wouldnt say that about any picture of the Rebbe!!! but i do think that it would have been nicer to choose a picture of the Rebbe smiling – it would be more encouraging for the people of Sderot.
To #50:
I think this mural epitomizes both what a rebbe should be and what our Rebbe is — a source of spiritual inspiration.
It’s absolutely beautiful.
Way ahead of you. Bumber stickers and t-shirts of the Rebbe have been around for decades. The people of Sderot look to the Rebbe as a source of inspiration. They face constant bombardment and the anxiety and trauma knowing that at any moment their lives could be in danger. They express a tremendous respect and admiration for the Rebbe and his shliach. If this picture inspires one more person to do a mitzvah, learn extra Torah, or do that one deed that the Rambam calls the “deal breaker,” it’s all worth it. BTW: So what if it’s not exact. It’s… Read more »
This is disgusting and all those that like it don’t understand what a rebbe is and even moreso what our rebbe is this mural is disgrasfull
I just did spray painting for a project in school, and beleive me, it’s hard! I can just about draw a horrible stick figure. Congradulations to anyone who has that kind of talent! Again, all I can say is WOW!!
mom
amazing
really cool wish i could have that by our shul
a big kiddush hashem
the bears is alittle bit big but its beautiful hands down! theese guys know what ther doing!!!
The first thing I noticed is the Rebbe’s eyes. The expression is pretty good, but the color….. those penetrating blue eyes?
now that’s what i call ,using your art for good things.
ART for FARATZTA !!!
keep up the beautiful drawing!
wow really amazing!!! except u cant see that shade of blue in his eyes?
its still really amazing
MOSHIACH NOW
coool!!!
love it
They did a good job!
But I agree with #28.
“Tmunah Miduyekes” is what should inspire us
they are blue, look closer, they used a shade effect, so they look black, but there is a blue hue to them, look in the close ups. and its INCREDIBLE for graffiti
This brought tears to my eyes…..exquisite!!!!!
very nice
lol nice work!!!!!
but werent the Rebbe’s eyes Blue?
And by the way the beard looks quite longer then what I see on portraits, but maybe its optical illusion!
they did so good !!!!!!!!!!!!
it really looks nice i like this picture more then a lot of other one’s
Grafitit of the Rebbe?! What is next bumper stickers? Tye-die T-Shirts. A little respect!! The Rebbe Holy Face is not a piece of art! The Rebbe said a “Tmunah Miduyekes” is what should inspire us.
I agree, eyes and the beird…
Is there a way to fix the brown eyes to blue? He had electrice blue eyes.
People putting their trust in painted images can be slightly problematic in the Jewish religion..I hope that kind of sentiment doesn’t go too far.
where are the blue eyes of the Rebbe….. but beautiful job
thats great, they created something to give strength to others. must be bnai noach
thats awesome a truly remarkable piece of work, fix the eyes and its the perfect masterpiece
IMPRESSIVE!!!
Kol hakavod to Rabbi Pizem. He is a pillar of the Sderot community providing support Bgub”r. A true star in the Rebbe’s army.
#12 – well said
Moshiach Now!!
althought the eyes should be blue….its AWESOME and Beutiful!!!!
great piece of work!…but would have made sense to fix the plaster (in the nose area) first…duh….
The face is amazing – and that’s usually the hardest part. The beard and clothing are a bit lopsided and out of proportion though. Should be easy to fix.
Wow. Best graffiti artistry I’ve ever seen though…
exactly what the rebbe said , everything can be for a good purpose or a bad purpose . we have to make the right choice
here they made an excelent choice!!
this is AMazing!!!! i wish we could have this in c.h for the parade
AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!1
Brilliant!!! Just lovin it!!!
These guys did an amazing job!
not exact but butiful
nice but something i wrong with the Rebbe’s eyes in the painting!
Amazing work, but the Rebbes eyes should have been colored blue….oh well……………..but most impressive.
oh my god
the Rebbe’s eyes should be blue
Looks really good!
