Hundreds of people participated in the inauguration ceremony of the new center of Beit Jabad Tucuman in Argentina, led by Shliach Rabbi Daniel Levy. One of the proudest people in attendance was Dr. Juan Manzur, governor of the Tucuman province.
Manzur hosted a reception at the Tucuman’s Historical House, where Argentina’s Declaration of Independence was signed in 1810. It was attended by Israel’s Chief Rabbi Dovid Lau, Argentina’s Head Shliach Rabbi Tzvi Grunblatt, Israel’s Ambassador to Argentina Galit Ronen, Avraham Duvdevani, Chair of the World Zionist Organization (WZO) and Jorge Knoblovits, President of the Delegation of Israelite Associations of Argentina (DAIA).
Manzur said the new synagogue was “A blessing to all Tucumanos,” calling it “a place of encounter and prayer, to plant knowledge for the Jewish community of the province and for those who work for unity and peace.”
He went on to say that “this building that we inaugurated, and in which we contributed our grain of sand, must be more than a place of prayer and knowledge. From now on, it is a symbol of unity, a bond that brings us closer and closer.”
The 3-story building is located at 770 Lamadrid Street. “It took a long journey to reach this moment,” Rabbi Levy commented. “But fortunately, I had the help of many people who put brick by brick to make this dream a reality. At times it was difficult, but G-d sent us unbelievable help.”
In reference to the governor’s enthusiastic support, Rabbi Levy said: “When the Mashiach comes, every governor will respect and help the Jewish people, that’s the only reason I find to answer why Governor Juan Manzur acts with such dedication towards our community.”
