Members of the Israel Defense Force elite Golani Brigade Battalion 51, together with their Commander Israel Friedler, visited the Kotel in Jerusalem Tuesday to recite the “Hagomel” blessing.
The soldiers of this Battalion, this being their first time leaving the army since the war with Hamas in Gaza broke out, chose to go directly to the Kotel in Jerusalem to give thanks to G-d at the Western Wall.
“During the war we saw great miracles,” one of the group said. “Only someone who went deep into Gaza, and was aware of the various operations that we accomplished where the biggest risks were taken, can understand the extent of the Hand of G-d that accompanied us through every detail.”
During the thanksgiving ceremony they recited the “Hagomel” prayer, with both the religious and non-religious soldiers participating. Many expressed the gratitude they have to G-d, and recognized the kindness he has bestowed upon them.
“Along with great pain for the losses that befell the people of Israel, and the murder of our comrades, soldiers and commanders who died Al Kiddush Hashem, we have an obligation to express our gratitude for all of our soldiers who were saved from death due to G-d’s great kindness,” they said.
Many visitors at the Kotel approached the soldiers and thanked them warmly for being at the forefront to protect our people, and said they were praying for them and their safety.
BH the army is outhwardly thanking Hashem for all He is doing. never to say Kochi ….
these are the men and women who kept ALL of us safe. G-d bless them.
BTW, the article notes that the “non-religious” soldiers participated. They may SEEM to be non- or minimally-observant, but they ALL believe in G-d! There are no atheists in a fox hole! AM YISROEL CHAI!
Marvelous! Boruch HaShem! May this visit to ‘The Kotel’ serve to put ‘Am Yisroel’ in the light of great merit by ‘The Holy One, Blessed be He.’ Nice photos and article.
