Chabad Girls Academy in Crown Heights strives to educate every girl in a holistic manner looking at the student as a whole individual with many facets. Throughout the year they use a very hands on approach to teaching, which is geared towards making the lessons applicable to their lives.
This is achieved in part by bringing in different community members who can inspire the girls. Some are shluchim who live abroad and visit the school to farbreng with the students, while others are local business owners who care to share their passions with the next generation.
Chanie Frankel, owner of the Mimulo flower shop, has given the girls a flower arrangement workshop where they made beautiful flower bouquets. The girls presented them to their mothers at the Mother Daughter Evening to show them hakaras hatov.
In school, as part of their hands on learning curriculum, students had a gardening workshop where they enjoyed the feeling of fresh dirt while they developed the school garden. They were able to map out their flower rows and were delighted to plant new bulbs for the coming spring.
Students have Yoga classes weekly which help them stretch and breathe, giving balance to their day. They also have art classes where they paint and draw using different art techniques. Sewing and crocheting are offered for the students where they learn embroidery and how to use looms to create scarves.
Another community member Zeesha Brownstein(nee Grossbaum), a holistic nutritionist and health coach, gave the students a wonderful nutrition workshop which focused on healthy eating and lifestyle habits. They were able to identify healthy food from other products on the market, and they made healthy smoothies.
The Crown Heights Urgent Care Facility hosted the girls for a tour and presented them with ways to take good care of their bodies. They received health care samples upon leaving. Incredible self-care products were generously donated by Mr. and Mrs. Gutleizer of Apple Drugs. The students were so appreciative.
Making a connection with community members has had a profound effect on the students. We look forward to getting to know our incredible community! Please show your support for our school this Monday and Tuesday February 24th- 25th and log onto www.matchathon.com/cga to donate at our annual fundraising campaign with Matchathon. We thank you in advance for making an impact today and helping us grow!
