Once again Golders Green, London, is lit up by a giant menorah.
For over 20 years, this community project, founded by Dr. and Mrs. Bunim Weinbaum and currently directed by Rabbi Yossi and Chani Simon of Tzivos Hashem, has been the largest Chanuka street celebration in North West London.
1,000 children and adults came together on Sunday night, the 3rd night of Chanuka, for the annual children’s Chanuka event. Chaired by Rabbi Menachem Mendel Gordon, the program began with the reciting of the twelve pesukim by children from all over the UK.
The Mayor of Barnet, Cllr B. Coleman, adressed the crowd and brought Chanuka blessings on behalf of the council.
Mr. Mendy Tajtelbaum, local community activist and international philanthropist, was the guest of honor at the event. He related how his father, Reb Itche Dovid a”h celebrated Chanuka in Auchwitz. “We are like oil, whichever liquid it is mixed with, it will float,” said Tajtelbaum.
“So too are the Yidden, even with all the trouble we go through, we will always prevail,” he concluded before he lit the Menorah.
A special fire show entertained the crowd, and bochurim from the Yeshiva Gedola dressed as clowns led the dancing throughout the hour-long program.
