From the COLlive Inbox:
This year, hundreds of families in Crown Heights will not enjoy a peaceful Yom Tov. They will spend the entire Yom Tov literally biting their teeth in aggravation and frustration.
This is not an exaggeration intended to get the attention of the NYPD, it is the actual truth.
The problem:
For most of the 24 hours in a day, every day, including and especially on weekends, there is a group five or so inconsiderate individuals who blast their music so loud that the entire block vibrates.
The NYPD was informed of this problem hundreds of times, but they never fixed it.
They did make their presence very visible for 3 consistent weeks, for pretty much 24 hours. It was amazing! For the first time in a very long time, we were at peace. We were able to go to sleep without ear buds and without having to wrap our heads in layers of blankets.
But as many have predicted, the NYPD left. The problem wasn’t fixed, leaving us now bracing for a month of aggravation and madness. Literally hundreds of people residing on this block will have a miserable holiday season due to the failure of everyone who is in charge to act, including the 71st precinct.
Five inconsiderate people ruining it for hundreds of people on the block, and the 71st precinct is failing to make this problem go away.
If you cannot do something as simple as getting 5 inconsiderate individuals to stop blasting their music literally all day and night, every day and every night, then what good are you?
If you have any pull with the 71st precinct, there is no greater deed that you can do than to persuade them to take action on this matter.
If you are the 71st precinct, know that hundreds of families and individuals are suffering unimaginably and needlessly because you are failing to do your job at the most basic level.
Add the empire-kingston-Lefferts area. As well…
Music and loud noise all day and night.
will send to washington DC (DOJ) and chief of police in NYC
a former CH resident – but still have an apartment there
Gather all these hundreds of people and protest or make reports at the precint. Does the block have cameras. If all this don’t help then do something drastic that will get every politician liberals going crazy. Either put up large posters reading KKK and every cop will come down to the block.
What block is it?
The situation is aggravating, but our neighbors also put up with late night farbrengens, street closures, simchas beis hashoeva, etc etc. Ultimately the police have bigger fish to fry, it’s more of a civil issue.
The editors should not have insinuated that these inconsiderate people are gang members.
Go speak to him. We went through this and that was the only solution.
YOU and your neighbors are the ones who “have pull” with the precinct. Each 3rd Thursday at of the month (this month 10/17/19) at 7:30 PM the community meets at IS 61 corner of Empire Blvd and New York Ave to specifically voice concerns about community policing. We meet with the Commanding Officer and all concerns are recorded and progress is shared at the next meeting. Local politicians and their representatives as well as the DA’s office and community organizations also attend. Looking forward to greeting you and please bring your neighbors.
If the residents weren’t afraid of voicing their concerns publicly they would have done so a long time ago. They’re afraid of reprisal by a group of individuals who have already proven to be superbly inconsiderate of others.
Now that you’re aware of the problem, please do everything that you can to fix it.
Thank you so much.
With all due respect, anybody who has lived here for the past 20 or 30 years or more can tell you that that has always been an exercise in futility. Meaning – no results.
Which block? Community Council? Does 71 Precinct read COL?
My above comment was to suggest that the community bring their concerns to the monthly 71st CC meetings where you will have a voice
Shame on deblasio and democRATS. Their giving power to these imbeciles.
Bring one hundred residents and destroy the speakers, etc.
This is permitted by Torah.
Why?
if your own government won’t help you, which is quite common, you can take the law to your own hands.
We live in America, not some tyrannical , fascistic, anarchist society. What’s wrong with you?
Join us on 10/17/19,Meeting begins 7:30 PM. Corner Empire and NY Ave.
That sounds pretty awful
But
I always wonder why it’s ok to have 2 sirens on erev Shabbos vyomtov
Simcha’s beis hashoaivo etc….
There are people who live there and need to go to work and can’t sleep all sukkos
This outrage may well backfire
We don’t live in a vacuum….we are in a neighborhood with different nationalities, not in yerushalayim
Just a thought
What is allowed and what is considered a public nuisance? Weekly sirens? Church bells? If it was up to me it would be determined by majority vote. Oh, and yes, I’m sure this post’s writer’s block’s loud music would be disallowed…
sirens before Shabbos and Yom Tov last for a minute or so.even simchos beis haisshovo are for a few days a year and all these activities ave permits.
Not in these cases
I totally commiserate with you! Why doesn’t the whole block gang up on this crowd or do as suggested above. It is so frustrating to live amongst people who have zero regard for those around them. Good luck and I hope the nypd steps up!
I have some Italian buddies that will take of the problem once and for all !!
the situation is more than aggravating. it’s dangerous. the noise the dirt the pot smells and sales . add sterling and brooklyn to the list
I’m assuming you’re talking about Union St. between Schenectady and Utica. I’ve gone out to check up on the source of the loud music many times and have found that it comes from 2-3 cars in the Jewish owned parking lot on the block. They BLAST music at the most ridiculous hours. Sometimes it’s a few minutes and sometimes they’ll remain in their cars and continue blasting the music for 5-10 minutes before leaving. I’m sure the owner of the parking lot can do something, if he’s asked. He happens to be one of the few landlords in CH that… Read more »
Certainly the Lubavitcher community creates a lot of noise and activity but the noise/activity is seasonal, (e.g. Simchas Bais Hashoavah) and/or very short (e.g. the Shabbos siren.) The predictable cessation makes it more bearable. On the other hand,it seems the “musicians” on this block are at it night-in, night-out, without cessation, and that makes all the difference.
loud rap music blaring is not an excuse for being mevatel the mitzvas aseh of simchas yom tov.
aren’t there anti noise ordinances???
why haven’t they been issued fines?
We suffered from the same thing but on a much smaller scale on our block years ago. his countrymen got him to stop after 9
since they had school and work just like us.
Is this some gang showing its dominance on the block?
