250 friends, community members and alumni joined the Bais Menachem Youth Development Program for its 20th Anniversary Gala Dinner celebration in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, on Sunday evening, October 21.
Bais Menachem is entering its twentieth year having just purchased a 53-acre campus in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. The property boasts 8 buildings, a 200-bed dorm, staff housing, sports center, music room and much more, all in a peaceful natural setting.
The campus marks a new stage in the evolution of Jewish education designed to provide a custom-designed program that gives each and every student with all that they as an individual require to thrive.
Themed “20 Years a Home for Jewish Youth,” the dinner began with a moving address from director, Rabbi Uri Perlman, about the unique nature and mission of Bais Menachem to unlock the power and potential in those who must work through pain and struggle in order to find themselves and the incredible impact that such individuals have on our world.
Alumnus Avi Mogilevsky shared his heartfelt story of finding acceptance, encouragement and success while a student at Bais Menachem and the ongoing role Bais Menachem has played in his life.
Author of the biography “Rebbe,” Rabbi Joseph Telushkin gave the evening’s keynote address, while Mashpia Rabbi Pinny Levitin‘s words ended with the bochurim and the crowd erupting into spontaneous and joyful dancing.
Honoree and supporter Dr. Matt Berger spoke of the tremendous selflessness of Bais Menachem’s staff as well as the impact Bais Menachem has had on inspiring his own personal Judaism.
